Medicine

Dr. Al Weir once wrote about the goals of medicine: 1) To prevent illness or its complications. 2) To cure illnesses that cause suffering. 3) To help patients live as long as possible. 4) To improve the quality of life as much as possible.

I believe my calling in this life is to be a servant to others. When we are served we feel more human! But when we serve we also feel more human! Isn’t that the essence of compassion? When we see someone hurt, broken, or less than the image of God, it is compassion that drives us to lift them up, heal them, and restore them. Medicine is beautiful because when we make people feel more human we ourselves become more human as well.
